October Meeting Announcement

The Dawson County Republican Party will be holding its monthly meeting, Monday, October 19th, at the Professional Education Building at 28 Main Street, Dawsonville (our usual spot near Food Lion) starting at 6PM with a social "hour," followed by the official meeting which begins at 6:30 PM. Refreshments are provided via donation.
Our special guest this month is Matt Payne, Director of Dawson County's Parks and Recreation Dept. He has served in this role since 2018 and has over 30 years of experience working in recreation. After having grown up in North Forsyth County and graduating from Forsyth Central High and attending North Georgia College, Matt took his first recreation job with Forsyth County Parks and Recreation in 1995 as an athletic Coordinator. After that, in 1999 he went to work for the City of Cumming as the Athletic Director and served there for 20 years. In 2018, he came to Dawson County as Director of the department. Matt is married to Missy Payne and will celebrate 25 years this year. They have 3 children, Hayden, Canaan, and Shelton. Hayden is a senior at Ole Miss University, Canaan is a sophomore at North Georgia, and Shelton is a junior at East Forsyth High School. Matt is a Deacon at 1st Baptist Church in Cumming Ga.

We need volunteers to help with the DCRP booth at this year's Dawsonville Moonshine Festival. The festival is Saturday and Sunday October 24th and 25th, with setup Friday afternoon October 23rd. This year we will have another gun raffle, balloons for the kids, constitutions to hand out, and other creative ideas to engage patriots.

***SAVE THAT DATE for 1st annual OUTRUN HUNGER 5k WALK/RUN***
The Dawson Community Food Bank and Thrift is conducting its first annual "Outrun Hunger 5k Walk/Run" on October 24th at Yahoola Creek Park (1166 Captain McDonald Rd, Dahlonega.) The race starts at 9 AM. This fun event and fundraiser will support their mission of reducing food insecurity during these inflationary times! Thy support 3,000 local families, including nearly 2,000 Seniors and 2500 children. 100% of the proceeds will go to obtaining food to help fill our pantry.
We will encourage participants to wear food-themed costumes and will also conduct a canned food drive at the event. More details in the links below.
